Opening Ceremony Saturday 10th October 2020

A small ceremony was held this year to mark the opening of Hastings Week 2020.

This was all done in accordance with government guidelines regarding social distancing, group restrictions and Covid-19 safety.

 

In attendance were;

James Bacon - Deputy Mayor

Jon Bartholomew - Town Crier

Nigel Hogben - Hastings Week Chairman

Gary Pelling - Hastings Week committee member.

After a sunny journey around Hastings & St Leonards aboard  'Happy Harold'. The Hastings Trolleybus then stopped at Hastings Castle. For a meaningful raising of the Gonfalons to officially mark the start of this years Hastings Week.

Hastings Week Poetry Competition

Due to its success, the Hastings Week Poetry Competition will be happening again for Hastings Week. This year, the theme is ‘Love Hastings'.

This competition is for all ages to enter and there will be three categories: 1). 11 years and under. 2). 12-17 years. 3). Adults (18 years and above). You may only enter one poem.

It is really simple to enter because all you need to do is write one poem based on the theme of ‘Love Hastings’ within 500 words and email to the Deputy Mayor on cllr.james.bacon@hastings.gov.uk.

Alternatively, you can send your poem via post to: Cllr James Bacon, Deputy Mayor, Muriel Matters House, Breeds Place, Hastings, TN34 3UY.

Don't forget to include your full name, age and contact details with your entry. The deadline for entering this exciting competition is Sunday 18th October. The winners will be notified by the organisers with certificates and prizes presented to the winners.

Poems may be used in publications supported by the Hastings Week Committee.

The panel will consist of 3 members: Deputy Mayor Cllr James Bacon, Cllr Judy Rogers and Actress Jenny Hanley.

Best Dressed Window Competition

Calling all local businesses in Hastings and St Leonards.

This is a reminder that the 
Hastings Week ‘Best Dressed Window Display’ Competition has been launched by the Deputy Mayor.

This is open to ALL shops (in Hastings and St Leonards) to participate.

There will be amazing prizes, including, a stay in a luxury B&B, a variety of dinner vouchers between £35 - £90, beauty treatment vouchers and further runners up prizes up to £35 each. These have all been donated from the traders in Hastings Old Town.

All you need to do is create a Window Display based upon your ‘Love For Bonfire Night’, using your creativity and product and this will be judged during Hastings Week (10th-18th October).
